sendFileToSlack Step

Use this step to send file to Slack.

Last published at: October 5th, 2026

Description:

The SendFileToSlack step is used to send a file to a specified Slack channel from within a FlowWright workflow.

The step provides True and False return paths, allowing subsequent workflow processing to respond to the result of the send operation.

Inputs

  • Path to the file – Specifies the path of the file that should be sent to Slack.
  • Channel to send to - Specifies the Slack channel to which the file should be sent.

Returns

  • True – Indicates a successful file-send operation.
  • False – Indicates an unsuccessful file-send operation.

Usage:

The SendFileToSlack step can be used whenever a workflow needs to send a file to a Slack channel during process execution.

A typical workflow pattern is:

Generate or Retrieve File → Send File to Slack → Continue Processing

The workflow provides the file path and the destination Slack channel.

For example, a workflow that generates a report can send the resulting file to a Slack channel for team access.

To use this step, we need to configure Slack information in the FlowWright Configuration:

Typical Workflow Suggestions:

Send a Generated Report to Slack

Use SendFileToSlack after a workflow generates a report that needs to be shared with a team.

For example:

Generate Report → Send File to Slack → Complete

The generated report can be supplied through the Path to the file input.

Share a Process Output File

Use the step to send an output file produced by an automated workflow to a designated Slack channel.

For example:

Process Data → Generate Output → Send File to Slack → Continue

This can make workflow-generated files available to the team through Slack.

Send an Exception Report

Use SendFileToSlack as part of an exception-handling workflow when a diagnostic or exception report has been generated.

For example:

Detect Exception → Generate Diagnostic File → Send File to Slack → Exception Handling

Send the file to the Slack channel used for the relevant workflow or operational communication.

Share a Scheduled File

Use the step in a scheduled workflow that periodically produces a file and distributes it to a Slack channel.

For example:

Scheduled Process → Generate File → Send File to Slack → Complete

The file path and destination channel can be supplied from workflow data.

Send a File After Workflow Completion

Use SendFileToSlack as the final communication step after important workflow processing has completed.

For example:

Complete Business Process → Generate Final File → Send File to Slack → End

Use the True and False paths to determine how the workflow proceeds after attempting to send the file.

Example:

Let’s build and execute the “sendFileToSlackDef”  example.

  • Create a new definition called “sendFileToSlackDef” and open the definition in designer mode.
  • Drag a “sendFileToSlack” step to the canvas.
  • Connect the dots between the “Start” and “sendFileToSlack” steps, as shown above.
  • Select the line between the steps to configure the “Connection Properties”. The default property values are “None, True, False, Error, and Evaluate”. Depending on the step’s purpose, you can configure additional values.
  • Click the “sendFileToSlack” step to configure its “Required” properties. Provide a name for the step, then click the Save button. Note: Click the "AI Predict" button to have the Copilot add new process steps that match your process description.

  • Click the “sendFileToSlack” step to configure its “Optional” properties. Enter the file path for the file you’d like to send to Slack. Enter the channel to send to. Click the Save button.

  • The “Logging” configuration is necessary for documentation and also measures workflow progress and percent complete. Configure the step state and percent fields individually, as shown in the images below. Configure the “Logging” using the following properties.

  • Save the process definition, create a new instance, and execute it. When the workflow reaches the SendFileToSlack step, FlowWright uses the supplied file path and Slack channel information to send the file. The workflow then follows the True or False return path based on the result of the operation.

Tips:

  • Provide the correct file path: Ensure that the path identifies the file that should be sent.
  • Specify the intended Slack channel: Use the appropriate channel value for the workflow's communication requirements.
  • Use Variables/Globals for dynamic values: The file path and channel inputs can be populated from workflow data when required.
  • Generate the file before sending it: Place the SendFileToSlack step after the workflow step that creates or prepares the file.
  • Use both return paths: Connect the True and False outputs to appropriate workflow handling.
  • Handle unsuccessful sends: Use the False path for appropriate error-handling or retry logic.
  • Use the step for workflow communication: Place it after report generation, exception processing, or other file-producing operations.

Definition Sample:

You may download the sample definition(s) from the link here and later import them (drag-and-drop) to your FlowWright Process Definition (XML file) or Form Definition (HTML file) page.

Note: After the import, verify and complete any missing configurations, such as file path references and database connections. Then, save the definition to confirm the changes.
