splitString Step

Use this step to split a string using a delimeter.

Description:

This step is used to split a string using a delimiter.

 

Inputs

  • stringVal - string to split
  • delimiter -  delimiter to be used
  • valueVariable - variable to store the split XML 
 

 

Returns

  • True – step executed successfully 
  • False – step failed to execute

Example:

Let’s build and execute the “splitStringDef” example.          

  • Create a new definition called “splitStringDef.”
  • Select the definition and click the “design” button
  • Drag a “splitString” step to the canvas
  • Connect the dots between the start and “splitString” step
  • Define a variable/global to store the result after execution
  • Click the "splitString" step to configure its "Settings" properties. Provide a name to the step. Provide a string text value or variable reference. Provide a delimiter to use to split the string. Provide a variable/global reference to store the split XML result. 

 

  • The “Logging” setting configuration is necessary for documentation and also measures the workflow progress and the percent complete. This is achieved by configuring the step state and percent fields individually, as shown in the images below. Configure the “Logging” using the following properties.

 

  • Save the process definition, create a new process instance, and execute. Render the process instance. Click on the process step. The step should split the string based on the given delimiter and store the result in the variable/global.
