Upgrade Utility - v9.x to 10.x

Last published at: June 19th, 2026

We recommend upgrading your local Dev/QA FlowWright environments before upgrading the production environment.

We also recommend performing this in a new environment.  Download and install FlowWright v10.x.

Suppose you are upgrading from any version 9.x or earlier to version 10.x. Follow the steps below to upgrade.

  1. Take a full backup of the application server's file system, or at least the following directory: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\cDevWorkflow

  2. Take a full backup of the FlowWright database.

  3. Copy the C:\inetpub\wwwroot\cDevWorkflow from the old server to the new server.

  4. Run the following utility, included with FlowWright v10.  You will find it at: C:\FlowWright\FWUpgradeUtility\FWUpgradeTool.exe

  5. Utility will be rendered as follows:

  6. Enter the SQL server name or IP, database name, SQL username, and password, then click the “Connect” button. A message box will appear showing the connection status.

  7. The “I have taken a Database backup” check box will become active if the connection is successful. Click the check box to enable the buttons.

  8. The “Upgrade DB” button should now be active. Click each button to upgrade the database. If you encounter any errors, please report them to FlowWright Support.

  9. If the steps above are successful, click the “Copy Folders & Files” button to copy files from the old version to the new one.

  10. The connection string and custom appSettings keys and values will be updated automatically. Verify these settings by examining the file c:\FlowWright\AppSettings.json.

  11. Next, open the FlowWright v10 URL in your web browser at http://server:8080.

  12. Log in to FlowWright and navigate to Status > Upgrade:

  1. Click “Version Changes” to view any changes, then apply the database and configuration changes using the “Apply” buttons.

  2. Start the FlowWright engine services. You can start the Process Engine and the Email Engine from the Windows Services.

  3. If any custom folders need copying, enter the full path to the custom folder and click the “Copy Custom Folders” button.

  4. If you don't remember the Admin password, reset it to the default by selecting “RESET Admin Password.”

  5. The upgrade process is now complete.

  6.  Please test the application's functionality to confirm the upgrade is successful.

NOTE: If you have customizations or extensions, such as Process steps, data types, and event handlers, they must be recompiled in .NET Core for the FlowWright v10 API components and deployed to the FlowWright v10 environment.
