Learn about the Step Categories, Template Steps and Template Step Categories

In FlowWright, the “step categories, template steps, and template step categories” are administrative features that organize workflow/process steps into logical groups, so process designers can more easily find, manage, and reuse steps when building workflows. It improves maintainability and usability when you have many standard and custom steps available in the platform.

Navigate to the “Administration > Steps".

 

The “Steps” administration page is displayed as shown below. By default, the page is configured to show the FlowWright “Process” steps. Click the “ETL” button to view the ETL process steps. 

 

Select the “All” category to view the process steps. Use the “Search” field to filter the results. Select another category to view related steps grouped together.

Select “Steps” to access the “Step Categories, Template Steps, and Step Template Categories” features. 

 

The “Manage Step Categories” page is rendered on the same page. The step categories are sorted alphabetically and arranged as shown below.  

 

Click to select a step category. A list of steps, both linked and unlinked, is arranged in separate columns. Use the “Search” text box to filter the list.  

 

The Steps are categorised and displayed within the FlowWright designer toolbox as shown below: 

 

Template Steps.

A set of process steps can be grouped as “template steps" in the process designer. These steps can be preconfigured and reused in another definition when needed. These template steps can encapsulate a small process within a larger workflow. 

Navigate to the “Steps > Template Steps".

 

The “Template Steps” page displays all the user-configured templates, as shown in the example below.

 

Select a template step from the list, then click the “Actions” menu to access the “Edit and Remove” options. 

 

Select a template step from the list, then click the “View > Step” menu to see the step properties. 

 

Select a template step from the list, then click “Export > XML” to export the step as an XML file. This feature helps move template steps between FlowWright environments using the “Import” function. 

 

Select a template step from the list, then click the “Import > XML” menu to import the step template as an XML file. 

  

Step Template Categories.

Use this feature to manage step template categories.

Navigate to the “Steps > Step Template Categories".

 

The “Manage Step Template Categories” page displays all user-configured template categories, as shown in the example below.

 

Select “All Step Templates”. A list of templates, both linked and unlinked, is arranged in separate columns. Use the “Search” text box to filter the list.  

 

Select the user-created template category, then click the “Actions” menu to access the “Create, Rename, and Remove” features.
