pdfFlattenFile Step
Description:
This step flattens a PDF document. When you flatten a PDF, you merge previously separate elements into a single layer. Flattening a PDF means that interactive elements in PDF forms, such as checkboxes, text boxes, radio buttons, and drop-down lists, are no longer fillable.

Example:
Let’s build and execute the “pdfFlattenFileDef” example.
- Create a new process definition named “pdfFlattenFileDef” and open it in designer mode.
- Drag the “pdfFlattenFile” step to the canvas.
- Connect the dots between the “Start” step and “pdfFlattenFile” steps, as shown above.
- Define a variable or global to store the file path result.
- Click the "pdfFlattenFile" step to configure its "Required" properties. Provide a name for the step. Provide the source file path on the application server. Provide variable references for the Output and Virtual PDF file paths. Click the Save button. Note: Click the "AI Predict" button for the Copilot to add new process steps that match your process description.
- The “Logging” configuration is necessary for documentation and also measures workflow progress and percent complete. This is achieved by configuring the step state and percent fields individually, as shown in the images below. Configure the “Logging” using the following properties.
- Save the process definition, create a new instance, and execute it. Render the process instance. Click the “pdfFlattenFile” process step to view its properties. The first step is to flatten the PDF, which reduces its size. Copy and paste the “PDFVirtualPath” variable value into a browser window to view the PDF.
