Description:

Lookup Data — Provides a form widget that can be used within a FlowWright form as part of a lookup-related user interface. 

 

Design:

The LookupData widget is a FlowWright form widget in the Engine category. It is implemented by FlowWright.Forms.clsLookupData in FlowWright.Forms.dll and is displayed in the form designer as Lookup Data. 

 

Use the Lookup Data widget when designing a FlowWright form that requires a lookup-related component.

Potential applications include customer information forms, employee forms, product entry forms, and other business forms where users need to work with reference information.

 

Typical Workflow Suggestions:

Customer Registration

Use the LookupData widget on a customer registration form where reference information may be needed during registration.

Example workflow:

Start → Customer Registration Form → Validate Customer Information → Create Customer Record → End

Consider the widget for the part of the form that requires lookup-related information. Verify its actual configuration and selection behavior before implementation.

 

Employee Onboarding

Use the widget on an employee onboarding form where users may need to work with reference information, such as organizational details.

Example workflow:

Start → Employee Onboarding Form → HR Review → Create Employee Record → End

Evaluate the widget for the relevant information-entry section of the form.

 

Product or Inventory Entry

Use LookupData on a product or inventory form where reference information may be required when entering a record.

Example workflow:

Start → Inventory Entry Form → Validate Item Information → Update Inventory → End

The widget may be considered for the lookup-related portion of the form, subject to confirmation of its actual capabilities.

 

Service Request Submission

Use the widget on a service request form where lookup-related information may help users complete the request.

Example workflow:

Start → Service Request Form → Validate Request → Assign Service Team → Process Request → End

Example: 

Let’s build and execute the “LookupDataDef” example.  

  • Create a new lookup data table by going to the Manage > LookupData page.

 

  • The Lookup Data feature is displayed on a new page, as shown below.

 

  • Click Actions > Create to add a new Category or include items in the selected Category. Enter the text and filter value, then click Create. Note: The filter value must be unique if all row elements already exist. 

 

  • Create a new Form Definition called “LookUpDataDef” that uses the lookup data table above. 
  • Drag a “LookUpData, Bootstrap Grid, and Submit” button onto the canvas and position them as shown below.

 

  • Double-click the “LookUpData” widget to configure the “Settings” properties. Enter a name for the control and a category label. Select the preconfigured lookup categories from the drop-down list. Click the “Lock Widget” button to toggle the lock/unlock feature and prevent accidental configuration changes. Click the “Save” button. 

 

  • Navigate to Page > Globalization menu. Select a language from the drop-down list and then click the “Translate” button. Click the “Save” button. 

 

  • Save the Form definition. Then, select Actions > Create Form Instance to generate a new form. Check the box to edit it.

 

  • The Form is rendered for preview on a new page. Select an item from the drop-down list, as shown in this example. The table below displays the lookup data.  

 

Tips:

  • Verify the widget's appearance and behavior in the FlowWright form designer before using it in production forms.
  • Confirm the lookup source and how values are made available to the widget.
  • Test the widget with the reference data required by the intended business process.
  • Ensure that users can understand the purpose of the lookup-related field.
  • Verify how the system handles selected or retrieved values when the form is submitted.
  • Do not assume specific lookup, filtering, or data-binding capabilities from the XML definition alone.

Note: After the import, verify and complete any missing configuration steps, such as file path references and database connections. Then, save the definition to confirm the changes.
